A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Per chevron Argent and Gules, in chief, a torii and in base a falcons leg erased counterchanged, armed Azure and jessed Sable. Attached below and to the sides of the shield a Silver scroll inscribed BUILDERS FOR PEACE in Black letters.
Scarlet and white are for the Corps of Engineers. The falcons leg, alluding to Aviation, and the torii, a symbol of support, refer to the units former function of aviation support. The torii is a type of gateway widely used in the Orient. The two posts represent pillars of the universe and the horizontal bar is for the sky. It stands for the Battalions participation in the campaigns for the Western Pacific and the Ryukyu Islands during World War II. The chevron shaped division line, simulating the rafters of a roof, stands for the organizations present mission of construction.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 17 January 1967.
